Prosecutors in the office of US Attorney Preet Bharara have issued a subpoena for Anthony Weiner’s cell phone and other records, according to law enforcement officials.
The FBI and the New York Police Department have opened preliminary investigations of allegations that the former New York Democratic congressman exchanged sexually explicit text messages with a purportedly underage girl.
Weiner’s troubles first surfaced over 5 years ago, with the release of sexually-explicit texts to women other than his wife. He apparently continued his history of poor decision making in 2013 when more evidence of ongoing bad social media choices showed up during his run for Mayor of New York. This latest news involves a girl reportedly only 15-years old.
I believe Rep. Weiner is someone with good intentions in regards to public service aspirations, but his repeated misbehavior online looks to be keeping him from returning to the political arena any time soon.
